01
Simple definition
The Four Pillars arrange a birth moment into Year, Month, Day, and Hour. Each pillar has a heavenly stem and earthly branch, forming a structural reference for cultural reflection.
02
Year Pillar
The Year Pillar gives a broad outer coordinate. In a modern archive, it is not treated as the whole identity; it is one visible part of the field.
03
Month Pillar
The Month Pillar is especially important because it carries seasonal context. Solar-term boundaries can change the month structure, so boundary dates must be handled carefully.
04
Day Pillar
The Day Pillar contains the Day Master stem, which the archive uses as the reading reference. The Day Master is meaningful, but never complete by itself.
05
Hour Pillar
The Hour Pillar adds another visible layer when birth time is known. If time is unknown, XuanYao uses three pillars and does not create a false Hour Pillar.
06
Solar-term boundaries
Near solar-term transitions such as Li Chun, the archive marks the structure as boundary-sensitive. That reduces confidence language and keeps the reading cautious.
07
Provisional verification
The current engine has strict independent checks, but the public verification state remains provisional until every launch criterion is satisfied and documented.
08
Practical reading method
Read the pillars together. Start with the Day Master, then check season, visible elemental presence, available time data, and the practical reading sections.
FAQ
Quiet reference notes
Can the Year Pillar describe everything?
No. It is one broad coordinate and must be read with the other pillars.
What happens when birth time is unknown?
The archive uses three pillars and avoids Hour Pillar evidence.
Why are solar terms mentioned?
Solar terms affect month and year boundaries, so they are important for careful chart handling.
Is verification complete?
The engine remains provisional while independent verification and launch criteria continue.
